Personal Training

University Recreation’s Personal Training Program provides students, faculty, staff, spouses and dependents the opportunity to train under the supervision of skilled professionals.  Not only are there benefits for the client, but also opportunities for the trainers to gain valuable experience by putting into practice what is learned in the classroom.

All of our trainers are undergraduate and graduate students at ASU.  They have backgrounds in Exercise Science, Health Promotion, Nutrition, and Athletic Training.  Most trainers have been nationally certified through an accredited fitness organization such as ACE, NFPT or NASM.  Other Trainers are scheduled to be certified within the semester.

Meet the Personal Trainers!

Alex

I am currently a Communication major with a minor in Leadership Studies. As a former wrestler for Appalachian State and now aiming towards a career in MMA, I know what it takes to turn your goals into reality. With a focus on circuit and resistance training, I can help you not only look better but get you feeling better as well. My goal is to motivate and get you as excited about fitness as I am. It’s time to achieve your inner greatness, and with hard work and determination you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”    -Thomas A. Edison

DJ

“To get what you never have had, you must do what you never have done.”

DJ is a Health Promotion major and CrossFit certified. He specializes in fitness, strength, and high intensity workouts. His philosophy on exercise and well-being is to not try and narrow exercise. Instead, look more broadly and the goals tht you wish to achieve will come quicker and safer. In his spare time, he enjoys football, weightlifting, and watching ESPN.

Jimmy

“Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” –Jimmy V

Jimmy is pursuing a Masters in Exercise Science-Strength and Conditioning. He currently holds an NSCA-CSCS certification and specializes in Olympic lifts, weight loss, and strength gain. He believes it is all about consistency and discipline. Losing weight and getting stronger isn’t easy and it doesn’t happen with one exercise session a week. There is no substitute for hard work! In his spare time he enjoys walking his dog and studying/researching anything to do with nutrition and health.
